Magnus Carlsen Set To Marry Girlfriend Ella Victoria Malone: Reports

World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen is set to marry his girlfriend Ella Victoria Malone, according to Verdens Gang (VG), one of Norway’s leading news outlets. The couple confirmed the news to the media organization through their friend Magnus Barstad. The pair reportedly wish to keep the details of their wedding, including the time and place, private, as they want their special day to remain quiet and peaceful.

Reports indicate that the wedding will likely take place over the weekend after Carlsen shared his World Blitz Championship 2024 title with Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia. Malone, 26, has kept a low profile on social media but has been seen attending chess games and other events with the top-ranked player.

According to Davide Nastasio, a former chess player from the United States, Malone has “an American father and a Norwegian mother, and has reportedly lived abroad several times, including while at school. She is from the western part of Oslo and went to the Uranienborg School in the Frogner area.”

Carlsen claims eighth world blitz title

On December 31 in New York, Magnus Carlsen made history by becoming part of the first-ever shared World Championship title. It also marked his eighth victory in the blitz title. After seven intensely contested games, Carlsen, the reigning world blitz champion, made an unprecedented proposal to his opponent, Ian Nepomniachtchi: they should share the title. Nepomniachtchi agreed without hesitation, creating a historic moment on Wednesday.

The decision followed three consecutive draws in the sudden-death stage. Carlsen had initially dominated the finals, winning the first two games and needing only a draw to secure victory. However, Nepomniachtchi displayed remarkable resilience, winning two must-win games to level the score at 2-2, leading to a sudden-death showdown.

Despite intense efforts, the sudden-death games ended in three draws. Carlsen then proposed sharing the title, a suggestion that was later approved by FIDE.
