India’s semi-final Champions Trophy 2025 encounter against Australia saw a furious moment when Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli lost their cool at Kuldeep Yadav after a crazy fielding error.

Steve Smith executed a shot off his bat at deep mid-wicket during the innings of Australia, which then saw Kohli pick up the ball quickly and release a throw in Kuldeep’s direction. But in an unexpected development, Kuldeep side-stepped the ball rather than catching it and let it roll past him. A clearly angered Rohit Sharma retrieved the ball, whereas Kohli, famed for his angry on-field temperament, seemed to admonish the spinner for getting it wrong.

In spite of the charged moment, India’s bowlers kept their cool, keeping Australia to 264 all out. Captain Steve Smith steadied the ship with a vital 73 off 96 balls, forging important associations 52 runs with Travis Head, 56 with Marnus Labuschagne, and 54 with Alex Carey. Carey also added a blistering 61 off 57 balls, taking Australia to a challenging total.

Mohammed Shami was the top bowler, getting rid of Smith with a cunning full toss. Glenn Maxwell, who was poised to make a big contribution, lost his life to Axar Patel. A late charge by Carey and Ben Dwarshuis (19 from 29) saw Australia go over 250, but Shreyas Iyer’s sharp direct hit sent Carey back to the pavilion, keeping Australia below 300.

With a total of 265, India will support their strength in batting, but Australia’s balanced bowling lineup makes the competition finely poised.
