Jay Shah To Remain BCCI Secretary, No Resignation Talks In Upcoming AGM

Jay Shah will remain the BCCI secretary until the end of November, with no plans to step down before then. The BCCI Apex Council is set to meet on Wednesday to discuss various matters related to the board’s operations. However, appointing a new secretary to succeed Jay Shah is not on the meeting’s agenda.

This will be the final apex council meeting ahead of the board’s 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bengaluru, which is just five days away. A new secretary is needed as Jay Shah has been unanimously elected as the next ICC chairman. However, he will not vacate his current role as 4 Secretary during the AGM, as he will only take up his new role from December 1.

The apex council meeting will cover eight agenda items, but the nomination process for a new secretary will not be addressed. Among the key topics to be discussed is the ongoing issue with Byju’s, BCCI’s former title sponsor. Byju’s, the Bengaluru-based edtech company co-founded by Byju Raveendran, ended its sponsorship agreement with the BCCI in March last year. The issue centers on unpaid dues from October 2022 to March 2023, even though payments were made until September 2022.

Additionally, the meeting will discuss the inauguration of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), located on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Currently, the NCA operates at the M Chinnaswamy stadium, where it has been for over 20 years. Other agenda items include the approval for exterior renovations at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and discussions on the North East development project.

Key Meeting Agenda Highlights:

– Byju’s Payment Issue: The controversy surrounding unpaid dues from October 2022 to March 2023, after Byju’s ended its sponsorship deal with BCCI in March last year, will be discussed.

– National Cricket Academy Inauguration: Plans for the opening of the new state-of-the-art academy in Bengaluru will be addressed, as the NCA currently operates at the M Chinnaswamy stadium.

– BCCI Headquarters Renovation: The council will seek approval for the exterior renovation work at its Mumbai headquarters.

– North East Development Project: Discussions will focus on developing cricket infrastructure in the northeastern regions of India.
