Javelin thrower DP Manu set for Training in South Africa

Indian javelin thrower DP Manu will train at the North West University High-Performance Centre in Potchefstroom, South Africa during a 32-day-long camp which begins the first week of March, according to Olympics.com.

To maintain peak physical condition for the next season, the silver medallist from last year’s Asian Athletics Championships will also compete in a number of local events while he is in South Africa. Additionally, he finished sixth in the last year’s World Athletics Championships.

At the Army Sports Institute in Pune, he is currently training. He was permitted to train in Potchefstroom by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ Mission Olympic Cell (MOC).
Manu will try to reach his sport’s qualifying standards for the upcoming summer multi-sport extravaganza, which are set at 85.50 meters, in anticipation of the Paris 2024 Olympics, which are scheduled for July and August of this year. Only Neeraj Chopra, the world champion, and Kishore Jena, the medallist from the Asian Games, are Indians who have broken through this barrier thus far.

Neeraj’s request to train in Potchefstroom under the government’s Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) was also granted approval by the MOC this year.

However, he has now departed for Gloria Sports Arena in Turkey, where he will train for 79 days in preparation for the next Olympics.

Additionally, the MOC approved Esha Singh’s financial aid for ammunition testing and grip manufacturing at the Pardini Factory in Italy. She is traveling to Tuscany, Italy, with her coach.

Proposals to provide para-athletes Pushpendra Singh and Navdeep Singh with new javelins were also accepted by MOC.
