IPL Unveils a Robotic Camera Dog—But What’s Its Real Purpose?

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has taken its broadcast experience into the future with the debut of a robotic camera dog. Half mascot, half cutting-edge technology, this mechanical dog is making waves both online and on the sidelines of the pitch.

Danny Morrison Introduces IPL’s Mechanical Mascot

The official X account of IPL recently unveiled the robot dog in a lighthearted video with renowned broadcaster Danny Morrison. Morrison has some amusing moments in the video with the robot dog, making it create a heart shape with its paws and even bet it in a racing challenge.

Covered in a brown fur-like substance and sporting a camera face, the robot is designed to walk, jump, and engage with its environment. The camera, said to be equivalent to a GoPro action cam, provides an immersive, first-row view action of live match play, providing what is being called “pet vision.”

Fans Name the Latest Addition to the IPL Broadcast Team

The IPL has gone one step ahead of fan interaction by inviting the audience to recommend names for the robotic dog and thus creating an experience for cricket viewers.

Before the Delhi Capitals versus Mumbai Indians match, the robot wandered the sidelines, entertaining players and spectators both. While MI captain Hardik Pandya seemed interested, DC skipper Axar Patel looked confused by the mechanical guest. MI pacer Reece Topley even jumped when the robot suddenly stood on its hind legs.

“Don’t get too close!” Morrison joked, keeping the mood light.

Dhoni Steals the Show with a Side-Splitting Robotic Dog Moment

In the LSG vs. CSK battle in Lucknow, the robotic dog stole the show once again. When the camera shifted to MS Dhoni, the CSK legend picked up the robot and placed it back on the ground gently, temporarily shutting it down and evoking laughter from fans.

The robotic dog is another development in the fast-changing world of sports television. With cricket coverage incorporating state-of-the-art camera technology, graphics, and interactive elements, the audience can look forward to an even more captivating television experience in the coming seasons.
