IPL 2025: Ashutosh Sharma’s Heroics Lead Delhi Capitals to Stunning One-Wicket Win

Delhi Capitals found a new match-winner in Ashutosh Sharma. He singlehandedly stunned Lucknow Super Giants and led DC to a nail-biting one-wicket victory in the Indian Premier League 2025 on Monday.

The crowd at Visakhapatnam witnessed a thrilling contest. Fans sat on the edge of their seats as 26-year-old Ashutosh scripted history. His unbeaten 66 off 31 balls powered DC to their biggest-ever run chase in IPL.

Ashutosh’s Game-Changing Knock

DC struggled at 65/5, but Ashutosh turned the game around. He stayed till the end, hit the winning six, and ensured DC’s triumph.

Meanwhile, LSG, despite missing key pacers, put DC under pressure early. Shardul Thakur dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk on the third ball of the chase. Soon after, Abishek Porel fell to Nicholas Pooran in the same over, reducing DC to 6/2. Additionally, Sameer Rizvi failed to make an impact, scoring just 4(4).

Middle-Order Fightback

To stabilize the innings, Faf du Plessis and Axar Patel built a quick 43-run stand. Faf found the boundaries, while Axar played aggressively. However, Digvesh Rathi dismissed Axar for 22(11) in the final over of the powerplay.

In the next over, Ravi Bishnoi struck again. Faf mistimed a lofted shot, and David Miller took the catch. Consequently, Faf walked back for 29(18).

Afterward, Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma added 48 valuable runs. But LSG’s impact substitute, Manimaran Siddharth, dismissed Stubbs for 34, putting DC under pressure once more.

Fortunately, Vipraj Nigam played a crucial cameo, scoring 39 off 15 balls. His knock included five boundaries and two sixes. With DC needing 42 runs from four overs, a timeout was called. Following the break, Digvesh removed Vipraj, making the game more intense.

Ashutosh’s Stunning Finish

At this point, LSG seemed in control, but Ashutosh had other plans. In the 18th over, he smashed Bishnoi for a six and a four, then hit another six.

Meanwhile, drama unfolded in the penultimate over as Kuldeep Yadav got run out. DC needed boundaries, and Ashutosh delivered. He ran a double, hit a massive six, and followed it with a four. As a result, DC needed six runs from the final over.

Pant backed Shahbaz to finish the game. On the first ball, DC missed a stumping chance and a failed LBW review. Then, Mohit took a single on the next ball, bringing Ashutosh on strike. Finally, Ashutosh sealed the win with a huge six straight down the ground.

LSG’s Power-Hitting Display

Earlier, DC won the toss and chose to field. Aiden Markram fell early, but Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran attacked DC’s bowlers. Together, they built an 87-run stand for the second wicket.

LSG looked set to cross 220, but Mukesh Kumar dismissed Marsh for 72(36). Soon after, Stubbs took a crucial catch at long-on.

Subsequently, Pooran took charge, smashing four consecutive sixes off Stubbs in the 13th over. He looked set to finish strong but faced Mitchell Starc in the 15th over. Starc bowled a reverse-swinging delivery that sent Pooran’s stumps flying.

With both Marsh and Pooran gone, LSG struggled to reach 200. Nevertheless, David Miller provided the final push. He smashed two sixes in the last two balls, lifting LSG to 209/8.

A Match to Remember

In the end, Ashutosh Sharma turned a tense chase into an unforgettable victory. His fearless approach sealed one of the most dramatic wins for Delhi Capitals. Overall, this thrilling contest will be remembered as one of IPL’s greatest games.
