IPL 2024: Yuzvendra Chahal Becomes the First Indian Bowler to Achieve This Historic Feat

IPL 2024: Yuzvendra Chahal, recently selected for the T20 World Cup in June, achieved a remarkable feat on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium by dismissing Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant during their IPL 2024 match. The Rajasthan Royals bowler became the first Indian to reach the milestone of 350 wickets in the shortest format.

Heading into the game against the Capitals, Chahal needed just one wicket to achieve the feat, which he accomplished by dismissing Pant. This marked the third time Chahal had dismissed Pant in his IPL career.

With this dismissal, Chahal became the first Indian bowler to accumulate 350 wickets in T20 cricket, achieving the milestone in his 301st appearance in the format. The next best Indian bowler on the list is veteran Mumbai Indians bowler Piyush Chawla, with 310 wickets. Overall, Chahal ranks 11th on the all-time list, which is led by former West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo, with 625 wickets in 574 appearances. Chahal is the fifth spin bowler and sixth Asian bowler to reach this milestone.

Breaking down his tally of 350 wickets, Chahal has taken 96 wickets for Team India, the most by any bowler for the national side, and 201 wickets in his IPL career, the most by any cricketer.

Chahal is also the leading spin bowler from India in the ongoing IPL 2024 tournament, with 14 wickets in 12 appearances so far. His impressive performance this season earned him a spot in the Indian T20 World Cup squad, with selectors favouring spinners based on expectations for the matches in the USA and the West Indies.

In the match, Delhi set a target of 222 runs, with notable contributions from Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abishek Porel, and Tristan Stubbs. Ravichandran Ashwin was the standout bowler for Rajasthan, taking 3 wickets for 24 runs.
