IPL 2024 Qualifier 1: What Happens If Rain Interrupts KKR vs. SRH Match?

In the high-stakes clash of the IPL 2024 Qualifier 1, the soaring Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are set to face the unpredictable Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), both eyeing a direct entry to the final. The winner of this encounter secures a coveted spot in the ultimate showdown, while the defeated team will head to Qualifier 2, where they’ll meet the victor of the Eliminator match. As the IPL enters its final week, cricket enthusiasts anticipate thrilling action on the field, albeit with a watchful eye on the weather forecast. Recent T20 league fixtures have been marred by rain, with three matches affected over the past week, leaving fans anxious about the fate of playoff fixtures. However, there’s a silver lining as this season introduces a Reserve Day for all four playoff matches, ensuring a backup plan in case of interruptions.

Rule 13.7.3 of the IPL 2024 Match Playing Conditions outlines provisions for rain delays, offering an additional 120 minutes for match completion, a rule applicable even during league-stage encounters. However, for playoffs, the Reserve Day option becomes available, allowing incomplete matches to be concluded on the designated reserve date.

Notably, unlike previous IPL editions, all playoff matches in the current season, including the final slated for May 26, have a Reserve Day in place. On the Reserve Day, the match restarts from the beginning, ensuring a fair chance for both teams.

In terms of playoff standings, KKR secured an early berth in the knockouts, while SRH’s recent triumph over Punjab Kings propelled them to the second position with 17 points. Rajasthan Royals’ match against KKR was washed out due to rain, maintaining their third position, while Royal Challengers Bangalore clinched the fourth spot by defeating Chennai Super Kings in their final league encounter.

As anticipation builds for the KKR vs. SRH showdown in IPL 2024 Qualifier 1, fans brace themselves for an exhilarating contest with the added assurance of a Reserve Day safeguarding against weather disruptions.
