IPL 2024: Piyush Chawla Surpasses Dwayne Bravo to Become Second-Highest Wicket-Taker in IPL

Piyush Chawla, the seasoned spinner for Mumbai Indians, climbed to the second position among the highest wicket-takers in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after delivering a highly efficient performance against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.

Chawla’s crucial dismissal of Rinku Singh in the early stages of the innings propelled him past Dwayne Bravo, securing his place as the second-highest wicket-taker with 184 dismissals.

Yuzvendra Chahal, the star spinner for Rajasthan Royals, holds the top spot with 200 scalps, while Dwayne Bravo follows closely in third place with 123 wickets during his stints with Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the pacer for Sunrisers Hyderabad, occupies the fourth position with 178 wickets to his credit.

Chawla’s stellar performance in the match included an economical spell of 1/15 in 3 overs, contributing significantly to Mumbai Indians’ efforts in containing Kolkata Knight Riders to a total of 169 runs.

In the match itself, Kolkata Knight Riders defended their total of 170 runs with resilience, propelled by an impressive 83-run partnership between Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey.

Mitchell Starc played a pivotal role for KKR, orchestrating a remarkable comeback with figures of 4-33. This victory marked KKR’s first win at the Wankhede Stadium in 12 years and brought them closer to securing a playoff spot.

Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, experienced a setback with their top order failing once again. Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s valiant effort with a score of 56, Mumbai Indians struggled to recover after his dismissal, ultimately leading to their defeat in the match.
