The suspense around India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad persists, with BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla revealing that a meeting to finalize the team will take place on either January 18 or 19. Reports suggest that the ICC had set January 12 as the deadline for submitting a provisional squad, but the BCCI has requested an extension.

On Saturday evening, the BCCI announced a 15-player squad for India’s upcoming five-match T20I series against England.

The Champions Trophy 2025 begins on February 19, with hosts Pakistan taking on New Zealand in Karachi. So far, England, New Zealand, and Bangladesh have revealed their squads for the eight-team tournament.

India’s campaign starts on February 20, with a match against Bangladesh in Dubai.

This is the first Champions Trophy since 2017, and it will follow a hybrid model. India’s matches will be hosted in Dubai, while other group-stage matches will be played in Pakistan.

Rohit Sharma is expected to captain the squad, but the inclusion of pacer Jasprit Bumrah remains uncertain. Bumrah sustained a back injury during India’s recent tour of Australia, raising doubts about his participation. Reports suggest he will report to the BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. Some sources indicate Bumrah may miss the group stage, while others speculate he could be ruled out of the tournament entirely.

In a positive update, Mohammed Shami is set to return to international cricket after being named in the T20I squad against England. Shami last played for India in November 2023 and recently featured in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, a domestic one-day competition, to prove his fitness.

The T20I squad, led by Suryakumar Yadav with Axar Patel as vice-captain, will start their series against England on January 22 in Kolkata.
