Indian Super League 2024-25: Odisha FC Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive with a Nail-Biting 3-2 Win Over Jamshedpur FC

Odisha FC secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Jamshedpur FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in the Indian Super League 2024-25 on Wednesday. As a result, the Juggernauts moved to sixth place with 33 points. However, since their league campaign has ended, they now rely on Mumbai City FC, who also have 33 points but still have two matches left. Odisha FC can only qualify for the playoffs if Mumbai City FC loses both games.

Odisha FC Takes Early Control

From the start, Odisha FC played aggressively against Jamshedpur FC, who are known for their counter-attacking style. In the 21st minute, Odisha FC broke the deadlock. A quick passing sequence from the backline led to Hugo Boumous delivering a perfect pass to Dori in the center of the box. Without hesitation, Dori struck the ball into the bottom left corner with his right foot, giving Odisha FC the lead.

Encouraged by the goal, Odisha FC continued to press forward. After a tough midfield battle, they doubled their lead in the 37th minute. This time, Isak Vanlalruatfela provided a well-timed through ball to Boumous inside the box. Boumous controlled it skillfully and slotted it into the bottom right corner, extending Odisha’s advantage.

Jamshedpur FC Attempts a Comeback

Immediately after conceding the second goal, Jamshedpur FC looked to respond. Imran Khan and Jordan Murray combined to create a scoring opportunity just outside the box. Murray attempted a powerful shot, but Odisha’s goalkeeper Amrinder Singh reacted quickly and made a solid save.

Nevertheless, Odisha FC remained relentless in attack. In the 53rd minute, they struck again. Following a corner kick, Rahul KP passed the ball to Boumous outside the box. Boumous controlled it with his left foot and curled it into the bottom left corner, securing his second goal of the night and Odisha’s third.

Jamshedpur FC’s Late Push Falls Short

Despite trailing, Jamshedpur FC intensified their efforts in the final minutes. In the 84th minute, Amrinder Singh received a yellow card for a foul inside the box, leading to a penalty. Jordan Murray stepped up and smashed the ball into the top right corner, reducing the deficit.

Furthermore, Jamshedpur FC continued their attacking push in stoppage time. Muhammed Uvais sent a pinpoint cross into the box, allowing Stephen Eze to rise above the defenders and head the ball into the bottom right corner.

However, despite Jamshedpur’s late fightback, Odisha FC held firm and secured all three points. Now, their playoff fate depends entirely on Mumbai City FC’s upcoming results.
