Indian Super League 2024-25: FC Goa Storms Into Semi-Finals With 2-0 Win Over Mohammedan SC

FC Goa secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Mohammedan SC in the Indian Super League 2024-25 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Tuesday.

As a result, the Gaurs now have 48 points from 23 matches. They have won 14 games and drawn six. Consequently, they have earned a direct spot in the semi-finals alongside Mohun Bagan Super Giant. According to an ISL press release, they will skip the single-legged eliminator.

Early Attacks and First Goal

Right from the start, FC Goa played with intensity, using quick passing to break through the defense. In the sixth minute, Boris Singh delivered a precise cross into the six-yard box for Rowllin Borges. However, goalkeeper Padam Chhetri reacted quickly and made an excellent save to deny the goal.

Nevertheless, FC Goa eventually broke the deadlock in the 40th minute. Dejan Drazic showcased impressive footwork on the left side of the penalty area. After skillfully beating Alexis Gomez, he sent a clever outside-foot pass to Ayush Dev Chhetri in the center. Without hesitation, Ayush set up Iker Guarrotxena, who expertly headed the ball into the top right corner.

Second-Half Action and Winning Goal

At the start of the second half, FC Goa continued to press for another goal. In the 48th minute, Drazic delivered a powerful corner kick aimed at Nim Dorjee Tamang. Although Tamang timed his run well, his header lacked accuracy and went over the crossbar.

Eventually, FC Goa sealed the victory in the 86th minute. Guarrotxena met a corner at the far post and directed a strong header towards goal. The ball took a deflection off Padam Chhetri and rolled into the net for an own goal.

With this win, FC Goa further strengthened their position as a title contender.
