Jamshedpur FC and Mohun Bagan Super Giant ended their exciting clash in a 1-1 draw on Friday. The match, held at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, was part of the ongoing Indian Super League 2024-25 season.
At the start, both teams worked hard to establish dominance, particularly in wide areas. However, the first 15 minutes produced very few chances.
Nevertheless, Mohun Bagan gained momentum in the 17th minute. Jamie Maclaren nearly capitalised on a long ball, but Stephen Eze made a crucial clearance. Moments later, Jason Cummings played an excellent through ball to Liston Colaco. However, Eze once again stepped up to clear the danger.
Eventually, Mohun Bagan broke the deadlock in the 25th minute. Tom Aldred’s header from a corner found Subhasish Bose, who calmly flicked it past Albino Gomes, giving the Mariners a well-earned lead.
Later, Mohun Bagan almost doubled their lead. In the 36th minute, Maclaren set up Cummings, but Eze blocked his shot. Additionally, Alberto Rodriguez delivered a precise pass to Liston, but the winger missed another golden opportunity. Just before halftime, Albino Gomes comfortably saved a shot from Maclaren, keeping the score at 1-0.
After halftime, Jamshedpur FC made significant changes. Khalid Jamil introduced Javier Siverio, Mobashir Rahman, and Seiminlen Doungel to strengthen the attack.
In the 60th minute, Jamshedpur turned the game around. Stephen Eze launched a brilliant solo run, cutting through multiple defenders. Upon entering the penalty area, he maneuvered past three more players and fired a shot into the bottom-right corner. Vishal Kaith could not stop the equaliser, which energized the home crowd.
In response, Mohun Bagan substituted Jason Cummings with Greg Stewart. Meanwhile, Jamshedpur brought on Rei Tachikawa for Jordan Murray to add creativity in midfield. Dimitri Petratos replaced Maclaren as Mohun Bagan looked for a winning goal.
As the game neared its end, both teams created promising opportunities. Petratos set up Liston, whose shot was tipped over by Albino Gomes. Soon after, Rodriguez narrowly missed the target with a header from a set-piece.
Despite late pushes from both sides, neither could find the decisive goal. The match concluded in a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
Stephen Eze was the star of the match for Jamshedpur FC. Not only did he score the crucial equaliser, but he also delivered a strong defensive performance. Eze made three tackles, six clearances, and one interception. Additionally, he created a scoring chance and completed 27 out of 35 passes.
