India ranks second in global doping violation: AIU

In a shocking revelation, India ranks second only to Russia in doping violations, as reported by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). The latest casualty is promising discus thrower Kamalpreet Singh, who finished sixth at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Singh, the national record holder, received a three-year ban from AIU after testing positive for Stanozolol, a prohibited substance.
The AIU’s full list, alongside the Directory published by Dr. Shila Jain and Dr. Jawahar Lal Jain, includes athletes caught doping or possessing banned substances. This information pays homage to Dr. Divya Jain, a promising medico of the 21st century who succumbed to Covid-19. Dr. Divya Jain’s timeless advice to young players was, “If in doubt, please check it out.”
Stanozolol, classified as a synthetic steroid similar to testosterone by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), led to Singh’s ban. According to Dr. Shila Jain and Dr. Jawahar Lal Jain, Stanozolol is an anabolic agent with androgenic properties.
Dr. Jawahar Lal Jain highlights that Erythropoietin (EPO) is widely used worldwide, with over fifty athletes caught using it. Dr. Shila Jain emphasizes its role as a stimulating agent and mentions its common use for kidney failure, chemotherapy, and medical conditions involving red blood cell loss and anaemia. The importance of staying informed and vigilant is underscored by the words of Dr. Divya Jain, urging athletes to verify and seek clarity when in doubt.
