ICC Offers Positive Feedback to PCB Amid Uncertainty Over BCCI’s Participation in ICC Champions Trophy

In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly expressed satisfaction with the arrangements briefed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, 2025. This briefing occurred during an ICC meeting attended by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi.

The PCB assured the ICC that all stadium upgrades are progressing as planned and will be completed in time for the event. Naqvi also extended an invitation to ICC members to visit Pakistan to assess the preparations for the tournament. The cities of Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi are set to host the matches.

While the PCB is eager to host the Champions Trophy, concerns remain about India’s participation. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet confirmed its attendance, leaving the decision in the hands of the Indian government. In an attempt to facilitate India’s participation, the PCB offered support to the BCCI for the team’s travel back to Delhi or Chandigarh after each match. However, the BCCI has denied receiving such a proposal and stated they would reject it if it were offered.

If the BCCI decides against sending its team to Pakistan and the PCB does not agree to a hybrid model for the tournament, there is a risk that India may withdraw. Such a scenario would pose a significant setback for the ICC, PCB, and all participating boards, as India’s involvement is crucial for the tournament’s financial success.
