A few hours later after India celebrated the news of Rohit Sharma’s squad as World’s best Test side, ICC issued an apology with an updated list of World Test rankings.
On Thursday, the International Cricket Council acknowledged the error and gave a statement that “ICC acknowledges, for a short period of time on February 15, 2023, due too technical error, India were erroneously displayed as the No. 1 Test team on the ICC website.”
ICC added, “We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Australia remain on top of the ICC Test Team Ranking after the latest update following the conclusion of Zimbabwe’s two-match series against West Indies. Australia will head into the second Test against India in Delhi, starting on Friday, January 17, as the No. 1 ranked team with 126 rating points, 11 above India’s 115.”
In addition, India won a mammoth victory in the first Test by 132 runs and an inning and lead the four-match series 1-0. The second match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be held on Friday at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
