‘I want Pakistan to win. Maza aayega…’: Ex-India Cricketer’s Bold Remark on Ind Vs Pak CT Clash

Following a resounding win over Bangladesh in their Champions Trophy 2025 opening match in Dubai, India will now look to secure a semifinal spot when they face arch-rivals Pakistan in their second Group A encounter on Sunday. But before this much-awaited clash, a retired India cricketer hogged the limelight with a shock statement, speaking in favor of Pakistan.

Pakistan in a Must-Win Situation

While India comes into the game with a victory to their credit, Pakistan is in a do-or-die situation after losing to New Zealand in their first match on Wednesday in Karachi. Another defeat could knock out the defending champions from the tournament at the group stage.

Former India Cricketer Supports Pakistan

Surprisingly, Pakistan has received the backing of former India cricketer Atul Wassan, who feels that a Pakistan win will make the tournament more competitive.

“I want Pakistan to win. Maza aayega (it will be fun, tournament-wise). If you don’t let Pakistan win, then what will you do? If Pakistan wins, then it becomes a contest. There should be an equal fight,” Wassan said to ANI.

Fakhar Zaman Ruled Out of the Tournament

Pakistan suffered a huge setback in their loss to New Zealand when Fakhar Zaman suffered a muscle injury that kept him out of the tournament. His place has been taken by Imam-ul-Haq.

Zaman had played a crucial role in Pakistan’s victory over India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final when he scored a masterful century to enable his team to win their first trophy.

India’s Dominance Over Pakistan in ODIs

Ever since that 2017 defeat, India has had a powerful record against Pakistan in ODIs, having won five of their last six, with one washed out. They last met each other in the 2023 World Cup, in Ahmedabad, where India cruised home by seven wickets.

With the two arch-rivals preparing to face each other in another thrilling high-stakes encounter, all eyes will be on Dubai as they wait and watch whether India continue their stranglehold or Pakistan manage an upset to keep their Champions Trophy dreams alive.
