Harry Brook agrees to sign three-year central contract

England batter Harry Brook shared that he promptly agreed to sign a three-year central contract for the senior men’s national side “as soon as they called him,” according to the report.
Alongside pacer Mark Wood and batter Joe Root, Brook is among the exclusive players to commit to a three-year deal with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Aged 24, Brook stands out in his 20s compared to the other two players in their 30s. He is also in high demand in the T20 league circuit, securing a significant deal with the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him for Rs 13.25 crores last year.
Despite the potential rewards T20 cricket could offer, Brook didn’t hesitate when Rob Key, Managing Director of England Men’s cricket, contacted him. “Straight away, as soon as England called, I was going to sign the contract. I have wanted to play for England all my life,” Brook expressed ahead of the second ODI against the West Indies.
Brook is part of the select group of six players offered three-year deals. While Jofra Archer and skipper Jos Buttler opted for two-year contracts, Test skipper Ben Stokes chose a year-long contract with the anticipation that contract values might increase with new terms agreed upon next year. Brook’s commitment to England is seen as an asset, with the team positioning him as a next-generation talent. His workload is being carefully managed, especially after acknowledging the need for rest following a challenging 50-over Cricket World Cup campaign in India.
Since his Test debut in September 2022, no one has played as many matches for England as Brook, totaling 45. Although England could have opted to rest him for the West Indies ODIs and bring him straight into T20Is, he is participating in both formats.
“Obviously, England made that decision, but I am happy to be out here, to be honest. It is a different lifestyle. I have been waking up at six o’clock every morning and jumping in the sea, so it has been an enjoyable tour so far,” he added.
