Following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20Is after the T20 World Cup, India faces the task of selecting a new national skipper, with Hardik Pandya emerging as a strong contender.
Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, addressed the possibility of Hardik Pandya becoming the full-time captain. On Saturday, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20Is after leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup held in the Caribbean and the United States. Hardik Pandya had previously captained the team in Rohit’s absence.
With Rohit no longer part of the T20I setup, the BCCI is now focused on selecting a new full-time captain. Although Hardik Pandya is a top candidate, Jay Shah emphasized that the decision will be made after consultations with the selectors. Shah stated, “Captaincy will be decided by the selectors, and we will announce it after discussing with them. You asked about Hardik, there were lot of questions over his form but we and selectors showed faith in him and he proved himself.”
Hardik Pandya has so far led India in 16 T20Is, while Shubman Gill is set to captain the team in the upcoming T20Is against Zimbabwe.
