Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi Soars into FIDE World Top-5

Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi’s impressive performance in the French Team Chess Championship 2024 has propelled him into the top 5 of the FIDE Live Rating standings, making him India’s highest-ranked player by live rating. With an ELO rating of 2769.7, Arjun has gained 8.7 points and is currently ranked just behind Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana, and Ian Nepomniachtchi.

This achievement marks a career milestone for Arjun, who briefly reached a live rating of 2771.2 earlier this week, becoming the first Indian since Vishwanathan Anand to do so. Representing Metz Fischer Chess Club, Arjun has secured victories in four out of five matches, including wins against P Harikrishna and Vitaly Kunin. His recent successes include a second-place finish in the TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament and a joint-fifth position in the Sharjah Masters Open Tournament.

Additionally, he claimed victory in the Menorca Open and was part of the Indian team that won silver at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Arjun Erigaisi, a talented 20-year-old Grandmaster from Warangal, Telangana, is widely recognized as one of India’s brightest chess prospects.
