Flight operations at Delhi airport were disrupted due to dense fog and low visibility, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 334, falling in the ‘very poor’ category. The Met Department issued a yellow alert for dense fog this morning, with temperatures expected to range from 9°C to 22°C. Visibility at Safdarjung and Palam stations dropped to 100 meters.
Flights not equipped with CAT III navigation systems, which allow landings in low visibility, were delayed. The airport advised passengers to check with airlines for updated flight information.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s AQI improved slightly from yesterday’s 398 to 334, still in the ‘very poor’ range. On Tuesday evening, rain helped improve the air quality to 358, leading to the lifting of certain GRAP-IV restrictions, including the ban on construction activities. However, some areas like Mundka and Nehru Nagar saw ‘severe’ air quality levels.
The weather is expected to remain cloudy, with a maximum temperature of 20.8°C and a minimum of 9.9°C. Another round of rain is predicted in Delhi from December 26-28.
