Everything You Need To Know About The 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony: Date, Time, Events, & Performers

After 17 days of thrilling competitions, the 2024 Paris Olympics will wrap up with the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 11. The event will be held at the Stade de France, located in central Paris, and will be directed by Thomas Jolly, who also led the opening ceremony on July 26.

What to Expect from the 2024 Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony:

Unlike the opening ceremony, which took place along the Seine River, the closing ceremony will be entirely within the Stade de France, which seats 80,000 spectators. Key highlights of the ceremony will include the athletes’ parade and the ceremonial handover of the Olympic flag to the Los Angeles 2028 organizers. Indian athletes Manu Bhaker, a two-time Paris Olympics medallist, and hockey bronze medallist PR Sreejesh will serve as India’s flag-bearers.

While specific details about performers remain limited, the official Paris Olympics website reveals that the ceremony will feature over 100 performers, dancers, acrobats, and circus artists, alongside renowned singers. The show will include aerial segments with impressive lighting effects, celebrating both the history and future of the Games.

Jolly remarked, “On August 11, 2024, the Olympic Games will conclude, and the Olympic flame will be extinguished.” He emphasized that the ceremony will be both a celebration and a moment for reflection on the significance of the Olympic Games in society. “We want to celebrate, but consciously,” Jolly said.

The closing ceremony is described as “very visual,” “acrobatic,” and “operatic,” featuring a grand visual display to bid farewell to athletes from around the world. Jolly added, “Together, let’s make this evening a memorable and conscious celebration, honouring the past and embracing the future.”

Timing for the Ceremony:

The closing ceremony will start at 12:30 am IST on August 12 (Monday), which is 9:00 pm local time, and is expected to last just over two hours.

Viewing Options:

Fans can watch the closing ceremony on Sports18 TV channels. For live streaming, the event will be available on the JioCinema app and website.
