“End of an Era: Australian Captain Meg Lanning Calls Time on International Cricket”

Australia Women’s cricket captain Meg Lanning has stunned the cricketing world with her immediate retirement from international cricket at the age of 31. A two-time ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup winner and holder of five ICC Women’s T20 World Cup titles, Lanning concludes her illustrious 13-year career, amassing over 8000 runs across all formats.

Expressing the difficulty of the decision, Lanning states, “Now is the right time for me to move on to something new. Team success is why you play the game, I am proud of what I have been able to achieve and will cherish the moments shared with teammates along the way.”

Lanning’s leadership was instrumental in Australia’s golden era, leading the team on 182 occasions and securing multiple ICC titles. She was named ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year in 2014 and ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year in 2015.

The captain’s farewell includes 17 international centuries, with 15 in ODIs, making her the leading century-scorer in women’s ODI cricket. Her career culminated with a T20 World Cup title earlier this year.

In Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, Lanning’s impact is evident, leaving an indelible mark on Australian women’s cricket. Her legacy is celebrated, marking the end of a remarkable era in women’s cricket Down Under.
