Edoardo Bove Recovering After Sudden Collapse During Fiorentina vs. Inter Milan Match

Edoardo Bove is conscious and alert in the hospital following his sudden collapse during Fiorentina’s match against Inter Milan, which led to the game’s abandonment. The Serie A club announced on Monday that the midfielder “was awakened and extubated this morning” at Careggi Hospital in Florence.

In a statement, Fiorentina reported that Bove is “currently awake, alert, and oriented,” having communicated with his family, club management, coach, and teammates, who all rushed to visit him upon hearing the positive news. The club added that further tests will be conducted in the coming days to determine the cause of the critical incident that occurred during the match.

The alarming event took place just 16 minutes into Sunday’s match, which was scoreless when it was halted due to the medical emergency. Bove was quickly transported to the intensive care unit at Careggi Hospital after collapsing on the field.

The incident drew comparisons to the tragic death of former Fiorentina captain Davide Astori, who passed away suddenly in his sleep in March 2018 at the age of 31, just before a league match in Udinese.

Concerned supporters remained in their seats at Stadio Artemio Franchi long after the match was stopped, anxiously awaiting updates after witnessing the emotional reactions of players and officials from both teams.

Fortunately, initial tests conducted on Sunday evening ruled out any serious damage to Bove’s central nervous and cardio-respiratory systems.

Serie A officials confirmed that a meeting would take place on Monday afternoon to discuss when the match will be resumed, with reports suggesting it may not be played until February.
