Celebration turned tragic for a Los Angeles Dodgers fan who accidentally blew off his hand while rejoicing the team’s World Series victory against the New York Yankees.
In a widely shared video, the man, dressed in a Clayton Kershaw “King” No. 22 jersey, attempted to set off a celebratory explosive when it unexpectedly detonated, causing severe injury to his hand. Initially confused and in pain, he soon realized the gravity of the situation. Bystanders rushed to assist him, with one exclaiming, “His hand blew off, oh my goodness.” Emergency services were promptly contacted to handle the critical incident.
First responders arrived around 2:30 am Thursday and found the 25-year-old conscious but suffering from significant injuries to both hands, according to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Amidst the Dodgers’ victory, chaos erupted as fans celebrated, with some setting vehicles ablaze and looting stores while wearing clown masks. The Los Angeles Police Department reported that 12 arrests were made during the unruly celebrations, including six for commercial burglary, four for receiving stolen property, and two for failure to disperse. Footage shared by the LAPD showed looters in clown masks entering and exiting a boarded-up shoe store about four miles from Dodger Stadium, with stolen Nike merchandise seen being tossed onto parked cars outside the shop.
