Controversial Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor has sent fans into a frenzy after announcing that he is to return to the ring. On December 17, McGregor tweeted that he has accepted an exhibition boxing match against Logan Paul and that the event will be held in India, where it will be promoted by the Ambani family. McGregor has not fought in the UFC since his 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier, which ended with a broken leg. His return against Michael Chandler is delayed due to a broken toe.

The fighter denied rumors of bout with Ilia Topuria by clarifying that the news is false. Instead, he confirmed the preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition and said that he is eyeing a return to UFC Octagon after this exhibition fight. He tweeted, “The news about a fight with Topuria is just rumors. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to compete against Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition match in India. I accepted. Next, I shall ask for my return to the Octagon.

Logan Paul, YouTuber, turned pro boxer, who started off his professional boxing in 2018 with a much-touted amateur match against another YouTuber KSI. The professional rematch in 2019 turned into their victory, as KSI was the one declared a winner by split decision. In 2021, Paul clashed with Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition, and Mayweather dominated; no official winner was declared though. In his recent boxing career, Paul won his first official fight by disqualification against Dillon Danis in October 2023.

McGregor was not in the limelight because of his professional rivalry. In November 2023, an Irish jury convicted him of assaulting a woman at a party in Dublin in 2018. Nikita Hand claimed McGregor sexually assaulted her after they met at a work Christmas party. McGregor denied the allegations, stating that the encounter was consensual. The jury ordered McGregor to pay Hand nearly 250,000 euros ($259,950) in damages. He has declared his intention to appeal the ruling, declaring that he is innocent.
