“Chasing Was One Thing We Talked About…”: Indian Skipper Gill After 10-Wicket Win Over Zimbabwe

Following India’s commanding 10-wicket victory over Zimbabwe, Indian skipper Shubman Gill expressed his satisfaction with the team’s flawless run chase. Fine half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill himself led India to a series win after defeating Zimbabwe in the fourth T20I of the five-match series at Harare on Saturday.

In the post-match presentation, Gill highlighted the importance of chasing successfully, stating, “Chasing was one thing we talked about. We could not do it in the first game, so it was good to get it done. The job is not done though. This is a great team, a great bunch of players. Hopefully, we will be able to take the team forward.” Regarding potential team changes for the next game on Sunday, Gill mentioned, “I have not had the discussion with the coach. If there are any changes, we will let you know at the toss tomorrow.”

In the match, India won the toss and elected to field. Zimbabwe’s openers Wessly Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani provided a steady start with a 63-run partnership. However, Indian bowlers began to take wickets regularly, though skipper Sikandar Raza managed to hold one end with his 46-run knock. Zimbabwe finished with a total of 152/7 in their 20 overs. Khaleel Ahmed stood out among Indian bowlers with figures of 2/32, while Shivam Dube, Abhishek Sharma, Washington Sundar, and debutant Tushar Deshpande each claimed a wicket.

During the run chase, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill led India to a decisive victory. Jaiswal’s unbeaten 93 off 53 balls, featuring 13 fours and two sixes, and Gill’s unbeaten 58 off 39 balls, with six fours and two sixes, ensured a win with all 10 wickets intact and 28 balls to spare. With this victory, India secured an unassailable 3-1 series lead over Zimbabwe, with one game remaining. Jaiswal was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance.
