Champions Trophy 2025: Shubman Gill’s Ton, Shami’s Fifer Seal India’s Win

India kicked off their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a resounding 6-wicket win against Bangladesh in Dubai. Mohammed Shami’s stellar five-wicket haul restricted Bangladesh to 228, before Shubman Gill’s unbeaten century ensured an easy chase for the Men in Blue.

Shami, Rana Wreck Bangladesh Batting Line-up

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh suffered an early collapse, losing three wickets in the first two overs. Mohammed Shami (5/53) and debutant Harshit Rana (3/31) dismantled the top order, reducing Bangladesh to 35/5. However, Towhid Hridoy fought back with a well-compiled 100 off 118 balls, partnering with Jaker Ali (68) for a crucial 154-run stand. Their efforts helped Bangladesh reach 228 before being bowled out in the final over.

Shami, the standout bowler, secured his sixth five-wicket haul in ODIs and completed 200 wickets in the format, becoming the seventh Indian to achieve this milestone.

Shubman Gill’s Unbeaten Century Seals Victory

Chasing 229, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma (41 off 36) provided a strong start before falling to Taskin Ahmed. Shubman Gill (101*) anchored the innings, building partnerships with Virat Kohli (22) and Shreyas Iyer (15). Despite losing wickets, Gill remained composed, reaching his century off 125 balls. KL Rahul (41*) finished the chase in style, hitting a six to secure victory.

For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain (2/38) was the standout bowler, but their total proved insufficient against a dominant Indian batting display. Shubman Gill was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock.
