Chahal’s arrival in English Cricket: Kent’s new ace shines on debut

Yuzvendra Chahal, the Indian leg-spinner, has begun his County Championship journey with Kent on a high note. In a Division One match against Nottinghamshire, he showcased his skills by taking three crucial wickets. Despite being left out by the national selectors for both the ongoing Asia Cup and the upcoming World Cup, the 33-year-old delivered an impressive performance, registering figures of 20-6-52-3 on the second day of the four-day contest.
Chahal claimed the scalps of Nottinghamshire’s Matthew Montgomery, Lyndon James, and Calvin Harrison, playing a pivotal role in restricting the opposing team to a score of 219 for eight in response to Kent’s commanding total of 446. His maiden dismissal featured a remarkable leg-break delivery that uprooted Lyndon James’ off-stump, leaving the batter in disarray. Earlier this season, Kent had signed up India pacer Arshdeep Singh who played five matches and took 13 wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal has consistently featured in the Indian T20 side, but he hasn’t participated in ODI cricket since January of this year. His most recent involvement with the Indian national team occurred during their five-match T20I series against the West Indies. The leg-spinner signed up with Kent for three County matches, at home against Nottinghamshire and Lancashire and for an away fixture against Somerset.
