Bumrah Might Miss White Ball Series Against England Due to Back Injury

Jasprit Bumrah sustained back spasms towards the end of India’s Australia tour. His spasms prevented him from bowling during the second innings of the fifth Test in Sydney. The BCCI might rest Bumrah for most of the upcoming white-ball series against England at home. This is just to ensure his availability for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in February-March.

According to PTI, the extent of Bumrah’s injury remains unknown. Furthermore, the decision on his participation will depend on further assessments. This recent setback has highlighted concerns over Bumrah’s workload and the Indian team’s heavy reliance on him. The 30-year-old bowled 151.2 overs in the five Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy including three five-wicket hauls. He finished as the leading wicket-taker with 32 wickets at an average of 13.06.

Recovery Timeline of Bumrah

The report suggests that if Bumrah has a Grade 1 injury then he will need at least two to three weeks of recovery. If it’s a Grade 2 injury then the rehabilitation could extend up to six weeks. A Grade 3 injury would require three months of recovery and rehabilitation.

India will host England for a five-match T20I series starting January 22 and three ODIs leading up to the Champions Trophy. Bumrah was expected to skip the T20Is, considering it’s not a World Cup year, but he would have played in two of the three ODIs to prepare for the Champions Trophy. However, his injury’s severity will determine whether he will miss the entire ODI series or be available for at least one match.

The Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19, with India starting their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 in Dubai.
