Bumrah Achieves Historic 200-Test Wickets Milestone in Melbourne

Jasprit Bumrah reached a significant milestone on Day Four of the Melbourne Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He claimed his 200th Test wicket, becoming the fastest Indian pacer to do so in just 44 matches. Bumrah achieved this feat after bowling 8,484 balls.

Fastest Indian Bowler

Moreover, Bumrah is now the fourth fastest bowler in history to reach 200 Test wickets. Waqar Younis holds the record, reaching the mark in 7,725 balls. In comparison, Dale Steyn took 7,848 balls, and Kagiso Rabada required 8,153 balls.

Historic Wicket Against Australia

Notably, Bumrah reached his 200th wicket by dismissing Australia’s Travis Head for just one run. Currently, he is the highest wicket-taker in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 29 wickets.

Bumrah’s Test Career

Since his Test debut in 2018 against South Africa in Cape Town, Bumrah has played 44 matches. Over that time, he has taken 202 wickets at an economy rate of 2.75 and an average of 19.38. Additionally, he has claimed 12 five-wicket hauls and six four-wicket hauls.

Success Against Australia

When it comes to his performance against Australia, Bumrah has played 11 Tests, taking 61 wickets with an economy rate of 2.55 and an average of 17.09. His fiery spell in the second session of Day Four was key to India gaining momentum.

Australia’s Position

At Tea on Day Four, Australia stood at 221/9, with Nathan Lyon (35*) and Scott Boland (10*) unbeaten. As things stand, Australia leads by 329 runs.
