Chandigarh: Haryana’s world champion boxer Saweety Boora and her husband, former captain of the Indian kabaddi team Deepak Hooda have filed counter police complaints accusing each other of dowry demand and assault.
The matter has now reached the courts with Saweety filing for divorce and financial support.

As per the information the dispute escalated when Saweety alleged that Deepak demanded Rs 1 crore during the assembly elections as he was contesting on a BJP ticket from Meham and later assaulted her in October last year, forcing her to leave his home.

She also claimed that Deepak and his sister recently asked for a dowry of Rs 1 crore more and a Fortuner SUV.

In a counter complaint in Rohtak Deepak has accused Saweety and her family of illegally taking over his property and threatening him. He alleged that Saweety’s family fraudulently transferred ownership of a plot he purchased in Hisar to their names.

It is learnt that Saweety has also approached the court seeking Rs 50 lakh as compensation and Rs 1.5 lakh per month for living expenses. Confirming the development the Hisar SP, Shashank Kumar Sawan said that Deepak was summoned for investigation but did not appear.

Saweety and Deepak got married on July 7, 2022. Their love story began when they met at a marathon where Deepak was the chief guest. However, after marriage, tensions grew.

Saweety, who recently won the Arjuna Award, had brought glory to India by winning a gold medal in the Women’s World Boxing Championship in 2022. Deepak, who hails from Rohtak, won gold at the 2016 South Asian Games and received the Arjuna Award in 2020.

Their deteriorating relationship became public when Saweety removed Deepak’s pictures from her social media.

Meanwhile, Deepak, who contested from Maham constituency in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections as a BJP candidate, faced defeat. It is learnt that Saweety also wanted to contest from Hisar’s Barwala assembly segment but failed to get party ticket.
