‘Big loss not having those two’: Handscomb on Cummins

Australia’s batsman Peter Handscomb believes that, the absence of skipper Pat Cummins and experienced opener David Warner will create a huge deal in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is starting on Wednesday. He also added, the return of Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc is going to be a ‘exciting part.’
After losing the second Test at Delhi, Australian skipper Pat Cummins immediately flew back to Sydney due to his mother’s illness, and opener David Warner has also returned back to his homeland, due to severe injury in his elbow. In the meantime, Australia has lost their two experienced and important players. Apart from this, fast-bowler Josh Hazlewood has also left the Australian squad for the whole series due to a left Achilles tendon injury.
But, the good news for Australia is, all-rounder Cameron Green is fully recovered from his finger injury and pacer Mitchell Starc who was also suffering from a finger injury is fit again. Both, of the players will probably join the Australian playing XI in the Indore Test and will get back in action after a break.
Following Skipper Cummins’ loss, Australia’s middle order batter Peter Handscomb said, “They’re two world-class players and Pat’s our captain as well, so it’s definitely going to make it tougher. It’s going to be a big loss not having those two.”
“But we’ve got all the information we need. We’ve got the training and the facilities that we need to be ready to go to Indore and Ahmedabad.” He added.
On the return of former players of Australian cricket, Handscomb said, “Starc is coming back from injury. We’ve got a couple of big ins potentially, so there’s that exciting part as well.”
In the absence of skipper Pat Cummins, Australia’s former captain Steve Smith will lead the Aussie squad in the Indore Test. Previously, Steve Smith has captioned Australia’s cricket team between 2015 and 2018.
Following the new captain ship, Handscomb said, “He (Smith) hasn’t too much. It shows he’s a world-class player and he thinks about the game a lot, so he’s a good one to have under Pat. He’s obviously experienced in this situation as well.”
