BCCI Set to Announce Gautam Gambhir as New Head Coach as Indian Team Heads to Sri Lanka

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is poised to officially announce Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. Gambhir takes over from Rahul Dravid, whose term concluded after the T20 World Cup in June. The team is scheduled to depart for Sri Lanka on July 22, with a press conference to unveil Gambhir anticipated on the same day.

India’s tour of Sri Lanka will commence with a three-match T20 International series starting on July 27. This will be followed by a three-match ODI series. For the T20Is, Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as captain, while Rohit Sharma will lead the team in the ODIs.

There had been uncertainty about the participation of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the ODI series, but both players have been included in the squad. This inclusion aligns with India’s preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy set for early next year. The decision to appoint Yadav as T20I captain and the return of Sharma and Kohli marks a significant shift in the team’s leadership dynamics.
