India have run rampant in the Champions Trophy 2025, having won every single match they have played and qualified for the final against New Zealand on Sunday, March 9 at the Dubai International Stadium. Of all the performers so far, one has been the consistency of Shreyas Iyer at No. 4, who has amassed 195 runs in four matches at an average of a staggering 48.75. He has registered two half-centuries and four scores of 40 or better consecutively.
Iyer’s fine form has been said to persuade the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to restore his central contract after he was omitted last season over disciplinary issues, according to The Times of India. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan, another who had his contract dropped, is still waiting to be called back internationally.
BCCI Delays Contract Announcement
Normally, BCCI declares the centrally contracted players’ list prior to the start of the IPL season. But this year, the board delayed its decision, choosing to review India’s performance in the Champions Trophy 2025 after a disappointing run in the Test series.
Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja’s Contracts Under Review?
Presently, four Indian cricketers—Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah—receive A+ central contracts. Yet, The Times of India report indicates that BCCI might revisit these contracts, particularly with Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja having retired from T20Is and India performing poorly in the Test format.
BCCI gives contracts to a player on the basis of his overall contribution to Team India during the year. A Champions Trophy win could see Kohli, Rohit, and Jadeja hold on to their A+ grade. Axar Patel, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant are likely to get a promotion to Grade A when the new contracts are announced.
