Following the Australian batter’s mistakes in the Delhi Test, stand-in-skipper, Steve Smith will aim to keep things slow down at the crease at the third Test match at Indore.
In the second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, almost six of Australia’s batters got dismissed while playing irrelevant sweep shots. Steve Smith was among those players who played irrelevant sweep shots and got lbw or bowled out by Indian spin duo, Ravichandran Ashwin and RavindraJadeja, who has taken a total of 31 out of 40 wickets in two matches.
Talking about his dismissal and Australia’s wicket collapse, Smith said, “I was pretty angry. There haven’t been too many times in my 94 Test career where I have come off and been bedazzled by what I have done.”
“It wasn’t the way I wanted to play. We probably rushed things a little bit and it’s something we will talk about. When we have got them on the ropes, we can slow things down. We don’t have to play at such a high tempo and risky tempo. We had them where we wanted them, we had men out and the ability to get off strike.” He added. Steve Smith who has currently replaced Australia’s captain Pat Cummins who flew back to his homeland due to his mother’s illness, said that for the Indore Test Australia would first take a look at the Holkar Stadium’s pitch and then will decide on Australia’s playing eleven. Following all-rounder Cameron Green and experienced fast bowler Mitchell Starc’s return in the third Test, Smith said, “What it looked like today is pretty similar to what we have seen throughout the series so far. We have got a few more options now with Green and Starc back. It gives us some flexibility to see which way we want to go.”
