“Amitabh Bachchan: ‘We Lose When I Do’, Skips Watching T20 World Cup Final Due To Superstition

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan joined millions in celebrating Team India’s triumph in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, despite missing the thrilling final against South Africa. India secured their second T20 World Cup title by a narrow margin of 7 runs, marking a historic victory.

In a heartfelt blog post early Sunday morning, Amitabh Bachchan expressed his joy and apprehension over the match, revealing his superstition about watching cricket matches. “WORLD CHAMPIONS… INDIA!!! T20 WORLD CUP 2024. The excitement and emotions and the apprehension… ALL DONE and over… the TV was not seen… we lose when I do! Nothing more enters the cerebrum… just the tears in tune with the tears of the TEAM!” he wrote.

Bachchan further extended his congratulations on X (formerly Twitter), sharing his emotional response to India’s win. “Tears flowing down .. in unison with those that TEAM INDIA sheds ..WORLD CHAMPIONS INDIA. Bharat Maata ki jay (Hail India). Jai Hind Jai Hind Jai Hind,” he tweeted.

The match saw South Africa making a spirited effort in chasing India’s 177-run target but fell short at 169/8, paving the way for India’s victory.

In addition to his reactions to the cricketing triumph, Bachchan recently starred in the eagerly awaited film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, directed by Nag Ashwin. The futuristic, mythology-inspired sci-fi extravaganza features Bachchan as Ashwatthama alongside Deepika Padukone, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. The film, set in the year 2898 AD, promises stunning visuals and a unique storytelling experience.

During a promotional event ahead of its release on June 27, Bachchan praised director Nag Ashwin for his visionary concept. “Nagi came and explained the idea of Kalki 2898 AD. After he left, I thought, what the hell is Nagi drinking? To think of something like this is absolutely outrageous,” Bachchan remarked, highlighting the film’s futuristic themes and spectacular visuals.
