Aman Sehrawat was the last athlete to add to India’s medal tally at the Paris Olympics 2024. The 21-year-old wrestler won a bronze medal on his Olympic debut after defeating Darian Toi Cruz of Puerto Rico with a convincing score of 13-5. This victory made Sehrawat India’s youngest-ever Olympic medalist.
Raised by his grandfather after losing his parents at the age of 11, Sehrawat dedicated his life to wrestling, training at Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium. Despite his success in Paris, he remains hungry for gold, aiming for victory in Los Angeles in 2028.
When not on the mat, Sehrawat relaxes by watching the Indian TV show ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.’ Speaking with India Today after his win, Sehrawat shared, “Tab to bas Taarak Mehta dekhna accha lagta hai (When I am not wrestling, I love to watch ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’).”
Fans on social media have embraced Sehrawat’s simplicity, finding his love for the popular show endearing.
With his win, India’s medal tally at the Olympics rose to six, including five bronze and one silver medal. Sehrawat’s journey in the 57kg freestyle wrestling category showcased his determination and skill, as he overcame tough competition to earn his place in history.
Sehrawat advanced to the semifinals by defeating Albanian Zelimkhan Abakarov 12-0 through technical superiority, continuing his impressive run at the Paris Olympics.
