AAP accuses BJP of misusing agencies to undermine Govt

Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh made a significant allegation against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government on Monday, December 23, 2024.

He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of misusing investigative agencies for political purposes. Singh claimed that the arrest of former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal was carried out illegally, without the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

AAP reiterated its stance that the central government does not respect democratic principles. According to the party, Kejriwal’s arrest was politically motivated and aimed at destabilizing the Delhi government. Singh pointed out that the recent approval by the MHA for Kejriwal’s arrest confirms that the earlier action was illegal.

He argued that this misuse of investigative agencies was a deliberate attempt to topple the elected government in Delhi.

Raising serious questions, Singh said, “Who will compensate for the time Arvind Kejriwal spent in jail? Even MHA officials now admit that his arrest was wrongful.” Singh further stated that AAP would pursue all necessary legal actions to seek justice for Kejriwal, who was kept in jail illegally for six months.

Kejriwal was arrested on March 21, 2024, in connection with the Delhi excise policy case, initially by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and later by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He was released on bail in September after spending six months in custody.
