India will face Australia in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Adelaide, starting December 6. After a dominant 295-run victory in Perth, India looks to continue their strong form. Australia struggled throughout the match, resulting in a one-sided encounter. Ahead of the second Test, Cheteshwar Pujara recommends sticking with the same bowling lineup that worked well in Perth.
India’s Strong Performance in Perth
In the first innings, India struggled and was bowled out for just 150 runs, with Josh Hazlewood claiming four wickets. Australia then responded with a disappointing 104 runs. Jasprit Bumrah played a crucial role, taking five wickets and helping India dismiss Australia cheaply.
In India’s second innings, they declared at a commanding 487/6. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a brilliant 161, while Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 100*. Australia faced a daunting target of 534 runs but was bowled out for 238. Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj each took three wickets, effectively finishing off Australia’s innings.
India’s Bowling Attack for Adelaide
As India prepares for the Adelaide Test, discussions focus on their bowling attack. In Perth, Harshit Rana joined Bumrah and Siraj in the pace department, while Washington Sundar handled the spin duties as the all-rounder. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were left out of the playing XI.
Pujara Backs the Same Bowling Lineup
Pujara strongly believes that India should maintain the same bowling combination. He said, “There’s no question about it. This bowling attack has given us success. Bumrah looked really good, Siraj was very good, and it was supported by Harshit. He bowled really well. He was playing his first game, still pitching the ball up.”
Pujara also praised Rana’s composure, especially in challenging conditions. He added, “In Australia, it’s very easy to get carried away. But he (Rana) was still looking to hit the right spot, good length, trying to hit the top of off. He has that ability. So I think we should carry on with the same bowling attack.”
Pujara on Sundar’s Role
Pujara also acknowledged Sundar’s improvement during the first Test. He noted, “I think he (Sundar) didn’t look really good when he started his bowling, but eventually, he got a couple of wickets. He varied his pace. So, Washi should be our spinner because he can bat well. The reason he was chosen in this squad is because he can bat. That will be the important part in the second Test match. If we lose a few wickets early, Washington can help.”
Sundar delivered strong performances, taking two wickets in 15 overs and conceding just 48 runs in the second innings. In the first innings, he bowled two overs, giving away only one run.
India will likely retain the same bowling lineup for the second Test, aiming to build on their strong showing from the first match.
