Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta urged the youth to utilize their voting power to fortify democracy and elect a government committed to the welfare of the nation. He made this call during the New Voters’ Conference held on the 14th National Voters’ Day at Government College in Sector-1. The programme commenced with Gupta lighting the traditional lamp, and Municipal Corporation Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal was also in attendance. The event featured a live address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gupta, extending wishes for National Voters Day, emphasized India’s status as the world’s largest democratic country, often referred to as the “Mother of Democracy.” He underscored the significance of this year’s National Voters’ Day, coinciding with the country’s pledge for its 100th year of independence, marking a special occasion as it moves toward success.
Gupta highlighted the uniqueness of this democratic celebration, anticipating the participation of nearly 100 crore voters in the 2024 general elections, contributing to the foundation of a developed India.
The Assembly Speaker stressed the necessity of voter awareness to strengthen democracy. National Voters Day, observed on January 25, aims to heighten awareness among voters about exercising their franchise. Gupta encouraged eligible youth, particularly those recently turning 18, to ensure their inclusion in the voter list, enabling them to play a role in democracy’s fortification. He emphasized the equal constitutional rights enjoyed by every citizen, irrespective of their position in society.
Gupta regarded India’s general elections as the nation’s grandest festival, both in scale and increasing public participation. He called upon young voters to exercise their vote without any external pressure during the forthcoming Festival of Democracy in 2024. The goal is to elect a government that will elevate the country’s standing globally.
During the event, Gupta administered the Voter’s Day oath to the students and professors in attendance. College principal Yashpal delivered a welcoming address and presented Gupta with a memento. Notable figures, including BJP District Vice President Umesh Sood, Councilor Sonia Sood, and other local leaders, along with professors and students, were present at the occasion.
