US Airstrike Kills Senior ISIS Official In Syria

A senior ISIS official was killed in a US airstrike in Syria on Sunday, according to a statement from US Central Command released on Wednesday (local time). The official, identified as Usamah Jamal Muhammad Ibrahim al-Janabi, was described as a senior ISIS facilitator whose death is expected to disrupt the group’s ability to carry out terror attacks.

In the statement posted on X, US Central Command announced, “US Central Command Airstrike in Syria Kills Senior ISIS Official On June 16, US Central Command conducted an airstrike in Syria, killing Usamah Jamal Muhammad Ibrahim al-Janabi, a senior ISIS official and facilitator.”

The statement emphasized that the operation aimed to degrade ISIS’s operational capabilities and ensure its lasting defeat, underscoring that no civilians were harmed in the strike.

CNN reported that the US military continues to target ISIS officials across Africa and the Middle East. Recently, an airstrike near Dhaardaar in Somalia was reported to have killed three ISIS terrorists, as assessed by US Africa Command.

From January to March, CENTCOM and its partners reportedly killed seven ISIS operatives and detained 27 others in Syria. In Iraq during the same period, 11 operatives were killed and 36 individuals were detained, according to the report.

Earlier in April, General Erik Kurilla, commander of CENTCOM, reiterated their commitment to defeating ISIS due to its regional and global threat. He stated, “We are committed to the enduring defeat of ISIS because of the threat they pose both regionally and globally.”

General Kurilla further emphasized, “We continue to focus our efforts on specifically targeting those members of ISIS who are seeking to conduct external operations outside of Iraq and Syria and those ISIS members attempting to break out ISIS members in detention in an attempt to reconstitute their forces.”
