Two Indians Serving in Russian Army Killed in Ukraine; Govt Demands End to Recruitment
Two Indian nationals recruited by the Russian Army have died in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday.

“We regret to state that two Indian nationals who had been recruited by the Russian Army have recently been killed in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased,” the MEA announced on June 11.

India’s foreign ministry, in conjunction with the Indian Embassy in Moscow, has “strongly taken up the matter” with the Russian Ambassador in New Delhi and Russian authorities in Moscow.

The Indian Embassy in Moscow has “pressed” the Russian authorities, including the Ministry of Defence, for the swift repatriation of the mortal remains, the MEA stated.

The MEA has also demanded the early release and return of all Indian nationals currently serving in the Russian Army, addressing this request to both the Russian Ambassador in New Delhi and the Russian authorities in Moscow.

The MEA has insisted on a “verified stop to any further recruitment” of Indian nationals by the Russian Army, stating that “such activities would not be in consonance with our partnership.”

“We also urge Indian nationals to exercise caution while seeking employment opportunities in Russia,” the MEA advised.
