2024 US Election: Biden to Announce New Policy Protecting Spouses of US Citizens

US President Joe Biden is set to announce a new policy aimed at offering protection to dozens of spouses who are married to US citizens from deportation.

Biden plans to introduce this agenda at a White House event and launch this initiative on the eve of celebrating the Obama-era program called the ‘Dreamers’ directive.

This directive offers protection from deportation to these undocumented illegal immigrants.

As per sources aware of this matter, this new policy will provide an opportunity for 490,000 spouses of US citizens to apply for the ‘parole in place’ program.

Under this program, if they have been residing in the country for 10 years, this law will not only protect them from deportation but will also offer them work permits.

This development comes at a time when Biden is already preparing for potential re-election against Donald Trump, who is known for his strict immigration policies.

But for some time, the US government has been exploring different options to assist immigrants without legal status. With the introduction of this policy, Biden is not only offering protection from deportation and providing work permits but also lifting legal restrictions. Thus, allowing eligible immigrants to apply for permanent residency and even US citizenship.

However, the reaction to this upcoming policy has evoked different reactions from the society.

Supporters of immigration have enthusiastically welcomed this policy, asserting that immigrants without legal status face numerous challenges despite their longstanding ties to the country.

On the other hand, Republicans have criticized the policy. One Republican senator, John Cornyn, has labeled it a ‘huge magnet’ for immigrants, suggesting that it could potentially ‘attract even more people’ to the country’s borders.
