ESPN fires MLB reporter Marly Rivera, Know the reason

ESPN national baseball reporter Marly Rivera has been fired following an incident at Yankee Stadium in which she uttered the words “f-king c-t” toward a fellow female reporter during an Aaron Judge interview.

Rivera has worked as a dugout reporter for the Home Run Derby, as well as on “Sunday Night Baseball” and as an ESPN Radio MLB playoff game analyst. She brought a unique perspective to the telecasts due to her bilingualism, particularly when speaking with Latin players.

She also contributed to ESPN’s digital platforms. “She no longer works here,” ESPN revealed in a statement. For those unversed, the incident occurred at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.

Rivera and fellow reporter Ivón Gaete clashed before the Yankees-Angels game when Gaete arrived to interview Judge as well. Rivera claimed she scheduled a meeting with the Yankee captain and that when she tried to notify Gaete of the meeting, Gaete ignored her.

During the heated debate, Rivera uttered the words “f-king c-t,” which were captured on video. Rivera attempted to apologize after the incident was recorded, but Gaete refused.

“I fully accept responsibility for what I said, which I should not have,” Rivera told the reporters. “There were extenuating circumstances but that in no way is an excuse for my actions. I am a professional with a sterling reputation across baseball and I do believe that I am being singled out by a group of individuals with whom I have a long history of professional disagreements.”

Gaete is the wife of John Blundell, MLB’s Vice President of Communications.Gaete, a freelance reporter, was in town for a Tokyo Broadcasting assignment with Shohei Ohtani.
