The Congress party faced a significant setback in the Haryana assembly elections as the initial trends that showed a comfortable lead shifted dramatically. Early during the vote count, Congress led in over 60 constituencies, sparking celebrations among party workers. However, as the counting continued, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gained momentum, taking the lead in 50 seats. Congress struggled to keep up, managing to hold onto the lead in just 35 constituencies, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI) website.

Celebrations Cut Short as Trends Shift

The festive atmosphere among Congress supporters, with fireworks, sweets, and drums, quickly fizzled out as the party’s prospects dimmed. A viral video circulating on social media showed dhol wallas leaving the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi. When questioned, they reportedly said, “They asked us to leave,” signaling the abrupt end to the celebrations.

Amid the unfolding scenario, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh filed a complaint with the ECI, expressing frustration over delays in updating the election trends on the official website. He called the situation an “inordinate and unacceptable delay,” voicing concerns about the accuracy and timeliness of the updates. Congress leaders, including Pawan Khera, also criticized the slow data, implying that the BJP might be benefiting from the delay.

BJP Wins Early Seats, Congress Secures Nuh

Despite Congress’ struggles, the BJP celebrated its early victories, with Dr. Krishan Lal Middha winning the Jind seat by defeating Congress candidate Mahavir Gupta by 15,860 votes. In another key contest, BJP’s Pawan Kharkhoda defeated Congress’ Jaiveer Singh in Kharkhoda by 5,635 votes.

Congress, however, managed to open its account with a victory in the Nuh seat, where Aftab Ahmed defeated Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidate Tahir Hussain by a wide margin of 46,963 votes, offering a small but notable success for the party amidst their overall decline.
