Shyama Prasad Mukherji College for Women’s Guftgu Book Club, in partnership with the college library committee, successfully organised its second annual literature festival, Shabdpakhi, on Friday and Saturday. The event aimed to celebrate women authors and amplify their voices on diverse socio-cultural and political issues.
The inaugural ceremony of Shabdpakhi, titled ‘Wings to the Words,’ was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including Prof Sadhna Sharma (Principal), Prof Omnath Bimali (Governing Body Chairperson), and Chief Guest Prof Nandini Sahu (Best-selling Author and Professor, IGNOU). The gathering emphasized the role of literature in exploring societal concerns.
Renowned authors Ekta Kaul, Dr Asha Joshi, and Dr Radhika Singh engaged in discussions, shedding light on women’s perspectives on issues like climate change, caste conflicts, migration, and social injustice. The festival included panel discussions with Dr Shefalika Verma and Ms. Ann Susan Aleyas, exploring the significance of women’s voices in regional literature.
Students actively participated in events such as a poster-making competition on ‘Empowering Women through Education’ and the inter-college creative writing competition, ‘Ekphrasis.’ ‘Young Literary Voices’ showcased original short fiction and poems by talented SPM students, addressing crucial aspects of women’s experiences.
