Responding to Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav’s comments that “CBI and ED should be shut down” former Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday emphasized the need to halt the misuse of central agencies and the “dictatorship” that undermines the system and destroys institutions.

Tejashwi Yadav said, “The misuse of central agencies, a dictatorship which hijacks the system and destroys the institutions should be stopped. Everything should be fair.” He added, “The CBI and the ED should be shut. If you have cheated, there is the Income Tax department to deal with it. Why do you need the CBI? Every state has an anti-corruption department use it if needed.”

The Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh are taking place in seven phases, with the first four phases already completed. Voting for the remaining seats will occur on May 20, May 25, and June 1. The vote counting will take place on June 4.

Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in India, holds the highest number of Lok Sabha seats, totaling 80. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a strong majority in the state in the last two Lok Sabha elections. In the 2019 elections, despite the SP-BSP Mahagathbandhan, the BJP and its ally Apna Dal(S) won 64 out of 80 seats, leaving the alliance partners, Akhilesh Yadav’s and Mayawati’s parties, with 15 seats.
