In the most recent ICC ODI Players’ Rankings, India’s Shubman Gill moved up to second place among batsmen on the strength of his performances in the ongoing Asia Cup. India has not yet suffered a loss in the Asia Cup, and a large part of their success can be attributed to the valiant efforts of their batsmen, particularly the top order that consists of skipper Rohit Sharma, Gill, and talisman Virat Kohli. Gill isn’t the only Indian batsman to move up the rankings; Rohit and Kohli both rose two spots to ninth and eighth, respectively, in the most recent rankings.
Three Indians are included in the Top 10 of the most recent rankings for batsmen for the first time in more than four and a half years. Gill has amassed 154 runs in the tournament so far, including two half-centuries. His impressive performance in the current tournament has propelled him to a career-best second place among batsmen. He is behind Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who is currently in first place. The difference between Gill and Babar, according to the ICC standings, has significantly shrunk to just 103 rating points. The Pakistan captain currently leads the batting rankings with 863 rating points, followed by Gill with 759 points.
