Odisha’s Shristi Upadhyay continues to make a mark at the ongoing Khelo India University Games 2023 Ashtalakshmi, securing three medals, including gold in the 200m butterfly, 100m butterfly, and a silver in the 50m butterfly.

Reflecting on her achievements, Shristi emphasizes the valuable learning experience gained from senior athletes during the Khelo India University Games, motivating her to surpass their performance. Commenting on her journey, Shristi states, “This is my third participation in the Khelo India University Games, and it consistently provides me with opportunities to learn from seniors.” She expresses admiration for swimmer Kalyani Saxena, saying, “I’ve always looked up to her for her technique, endurance, and competitive spirit. While she has been my inspiration, I’ve strived to surpass her, and I’m grateful to have achieved it.”

Shristi’s dedication pays off as she secures gold in the 200m butterfly event, triumphing over Saxena in both the last and current editions of the Khelo India University Games. Saxena secures the silver medal in this event.

Acknowledging the strategic timing of KIUG 2023, coinciding with her offseason and ‘deloading’ period, Shristi, who trains at the Odisha Swimming High-Performance Centre, remarks, “This tournament aligns well with our training schedule, allowing us to assess our performance levels after the offseason.”

Underlining her commitment to excellence, Shristi asserts, “I always strive to perform at my best in every competition and aim to surpass my personal best.”

In addition to her successes, Shristi will also participate in the 200m IM, 100m freestyle, and 50m backstroke events at the Khelo India University Games, showcasing her versatility and determination on the field.
